Points owns lead at Frys.com Open
14/10/06

Points, who shot a 6-under 65 at TPC Canyons on Thursday, had three birdies and an eagle en route to a 31 on the front nine Friday before recording four more birdies with a bogey on the back nine.

Todd Fischer, Tom Pernice Jr. and Aaron Baddeley all are two shots off the pace after each carded a 65 at TPC Summerlin.

Troy Matteson and Brent Geiberger are another stroke back after posting a 65 and 64, respectively, at TPC Canyons.

Shigeki Maruyama and Charley Hoffman also are three shots off the pace. Starting on the 10th hole, Maruyama recorded three birdies on the back nine and holed an eagle on No. 4 en route to an 8-under 64.

Hoffman recorded six birdies for a six-under 66.

Bob Tway, who shared the lead after firing an 8-under 63 at TPC Canyons on Thursday, struggled to a 2-under 70 and is four strokes behind Points.

An eight-time winner on the PGA Tour, Tway has had a tough time this year.

In 22 events this season, the 1986 PGA champion has nine missed cuts and only one finish better than 30th - a tie for 14th in Tucson in February. He entered this event just 176th
on the money list.

David Howell and Greg Owen are on eight-under 135 while Brian Davies is on one-over 144.

First-round co-leader Steve Flesch stumbled to a 74 at TPC Canyons after posting a 64 at Summerlin on Thursday.

Friday's second round was suspended due to darkness with 22 golfers still on the course.

Play will resume early Saturday morning.

The final two rounds will be played entirely on the 7,243-yard layout at Summerlin.

TPC Canyons plays at 7,063 yards.
