Responding to the suggestion that the Presidents Cup was lacking in relation to the Ryder Cup, Player took a firm stance of opposition.
"The Presidents Cup is not lacking. For a start, we've got a team that's a hell of a lot better than the (European) Ryder Cup (team)."
Player, who agreed with US counterpart Jack Nicklaus to share the trophy after a sudden-death playoff at the Links failed to deliver a result on Sunday evening, used the world rankings as justification for his claims.
"If you look at the world rankings, on paper our guys records are a hell of a lot better."
Goodwill and camaraderie were the order of the day as the week of close-fought competition in the fifth staging of the Presidents Cup ended with smiles all round.
Davis Love III commented that the spirit in which the games were played set an example for future Ryder Cup matches.
"The Ryder Cup has got a little bit over the top in the last few years," said Love III.
"I think the spirit in which these games were played showed that it is different than the Ryder Cup."
"We want this tournament to be played fairly. We've stressed that."
"That's the way it ended and that shows the world that we are hoping to play these matches for fun and for a love of the game."
"We are not going to beat each-other's brains out over it."
