Mobile phones, the scourge of the players lives, won't get past the main entry gate at Augusta this year.

They been prohibited at the Masters for several years, but it was essentially an honor system.

A good few spectators cheated, smuggling in their phones unobserved only to have them go off at some very awkward moments, so this year Augusta National have clamped down.

They have installed special metal detectors at the club's main entrance, a first in the tournament's history.

All patrons must now pass through the gates before having their badges scanned for authenticity.

The main entrance has been expanded to 26 lanes, more than triple its former size.
